Biographical History

Stephen Eno (1764-1854) the son of William and Lillias (Hicks) Eno, Jr. was born in Simsbury, Connecticut. He held various positions including teacher until about 1796 when he received his license to practice in the New York Supreme Court. In 1803 he opened a practice in Pine Plains, N.Y. and became a prominent lawyer in Dutchess County, as did several generations after him. Eno married first, in 1795, Mary Denton by whom he had six children, three of whom survived. After her death he married Mrs. Olive Shores Watkins by whom he had one son. Stephen Eno's son William (1800-1874) followed him in practice and he is represented in this collection as are his sons William Stewart (1827-1902), Henry Walter (1833-1884) and Frank Eno (1845-1933).
