Massachusetts House of Representatives is the lower house of the Massachusetts General Court, the state legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is composed of 160 members elected from an equal number of single-member electoral districts across the Commonwealth. Representatives serve two-year terms.
The Massachusetts House of Representatives is the lower house of the Massachusetts General Court, the state legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The General Court was established in 1630 when the Massachusetts Bay Colony obtained a new charter.
The lower house of the General Court consisted in the colonial period of deputies, first elected by freemen in 1634, sitting separately from 1644 to 1686 as the House of Deputies; in the intercharter period (from 1689), in the provincial period (1692-1780), and under the 1780 Constitution of elected representatives, regularly designated by 1705 as the House of Representatives.
