Editor specializing in books and magazines for or about children and teenagers (Wellesley College, B.A., 1925), DeArmand edited National Parent Teacher Magazine (1931-1941), Calling All Girls (1941-1947), Child Study Magazine (1949-1951), The Encyclopedia of Child Care and Guidance (1951-1954), and the Junior Literary Guild (1954-1969). She also compiled and edited collections of stories and guidance books for teenage girls and books for young children. DeArmand occasionally used the pen name Joan Douglas.
