Biographical History
The National Lutheran Council (NLC) was formed on September 6, 1918 as a common agency of participating Lutheran church bodies to administer domestic programs, publicize Lutheran activities and beliefs, and provide overseas emergency relief to areas devastated by World War I. In 1945, its Student Service Commission was initiated as a means to minister to Lutheran students at non-Lutheran universities and colleges. The Commission became the Division of Student Service in 1949 and in 1956 the program was renamed the Division of College and University Work. Secretaries of the Commission and Divisions include.
Morris Wee (1945-1948); Donald Heiges (1951-1958); and A. Henry Hetland (1959-1966).
