Biographical History

Frankfort, Kentucky lawyer, veteran of the War of 1812, Secretary of State of Kentucky and Minister to Russia, appointed by President Tyler. Rev. D.P. Henderson was from Kentucky, but had lived and served as a judge, in Illinois and knew Lincoln.

Charles Stewart Todd was born near Danville, Ky. He was a graduate of the College of William and Mary. He studied law under his father in Washington, D.C. and at Litchfield, Conn. Todd served as diplomatic agent to Colombia and as minister to Russia.

Kentucky lawyer, soldier, and diplomat.

Admitted to the bar in 1811, Todd enlisted in the army at the outbreak of the War of 1812 and served as a quartermaster, on Gen. Harrison's staff, and as inspector general, rising to the rank of colonel. After the war he married the daughter of Isaac Shelby, practised law, and served in several diplomatic posts including agent to Colombia and minister to Russia
