Biographical History

This little church was consecrated by the Reverend Matthew Hale, first Bishop of Perth on 7 May 1862. It is located on the Toodyay Road at the causeway crossing of the Avon River, about eight kilometres out of Northam. Church of England services were held in Western Australia from the colony's inception in 1829. The Church of England in Australia was established in 1962 and, in 1981, became the Anglican Church of Australia.
