YWCA of Savannah, Georgia.

In April of 1903, a small group of Savannah, Georgia, women met at Independent Presbyterian Church with a representative of the Atlanta YWCA to discuss the possibility of organizing a Savannah YWCA. Not feeling that the time was appropriate, the group waited until 1904 to take action. The Young Women's Christian Association of Savannah, Inc. was organized January 20, 1904, at Independent Presbyterian Church. The organization had two hundred charter members and selected Ellen McAlpin as its first president. In 1965, the group's name was changed to the Young Women's Christian Association of Savannah, Georgia, Inc. The original location of the Savannah YWCA was at Bull and Broughton Streets. This location was quickly outgrown and after other locations, the YWC moved into its new home in March, 1923, at Oglethorpe and Whitaker Streets. Experiencing severe financial difficulties throughout its existence, the YWCA had to cease operation of some of its programs. In the early 1980s, they closed (and eventually sold) their building. IN 1983, the YWCA ceased operation of its board.
