Biographical History
The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits was established in January 1987. It is a statewide membership association of nonprofit organizations sharing information, services, and research to educate its members and the community. The Council has over one thousand members representing all activity areas, budget ranges, and geographic regions of Minnesota. It works in partnership with its members, foundations, businesses, and government to strengthen nonprofits and to provide the information and benefits its members want and need. The Council is governed by a board of directors elected by the membership and representing all regions of Minnesota and every major nonprofit activity area. Services offered by the Council include a library, fax-on-demand, a web site, publications, the Nonprofit News bimonthly members-only newsletter, the monthly members-only publication Members Grants Alert, education and training programs, annual conferences, and cost saving programs and endorsed service providers. The Council was incorporated in December 1986, and was apparently an outgrowth of, or successor to, The Philanthropy Project, which began in 1984.
