Biographical History
The Glasgow Medico-Chirurgical Society was formed in 1820 by Mr Marshall, Mr Wilson and Dr Ferguson. Initially, the Society met in members' houses although it later met in "Cow Pock Hall", St Andrews Square. The number of members who agreed to abide by the laws governing the Society totalled twenty-one. The aim of the Society was to promote the writing and discussion of medical subjects. The Society was wound up in 1832. This relatively short-lived society is not to be confused with the (Royal) Medico Chirurgical Society of Glasgow (RCPSG 3).
