Robert K.R. Worthington, U.S. Naval officer, was born on March 25, 1915, in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1938. He graduated first in his class from Submarine School in New London, CT. During World War II, he served on the Silversides that sunk over 10,000 tons of enemy shipping. The movie "Run Silent, Run Deep" was based on the exploits of the Silversides. During the latter part of the war, he was CO of Balao. In 1949, as CO of the Tusk, Worthington rescued the Cochino that suffered an explosion in the Bareuts Sea. Worthington retired in 1962 and worked for Lockwood Missile and Space Company where he was responsible for the design and construction of the submersible Deep Quest. He retired in 1975 and died in 1996 in San Diego, CA.
