Biographical History
Edward Jacobson was born June 17, 1891 in New York City. In 1893 he moved with his family to Leavenworth, Kansas, and then to Kansas City, Missouri, in about 1905. From 1917 to 1919 he served as an enlisted man in the 129th Field Artillery, 35th Division of the U.S. Army. From 1919 to 1922 he was a partner with Harry S. Truman in the Truman & Jacobson haberdashery, Kansas City, Missouri. From 1922 to about 1945, he was a traveling salesman in the clothing business. From 1945 to about 1955 Jacobson was the proprietor of Eddie Jacobson's Westport Menswear in Kansas City, Missouri. During 1947 and 1948 he urged his friend, now President Harry S. Truman, to support the creation of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Jacobson died on October 25, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri.
