Biographical History

Maxine O. Dellinger Wootton (1918-1993) was born in Clovis, New Mexico on May 20, 1918. A resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico for more than fifty years, Mrs. Wootton first came to the city to attend New Mexico Normal School, later named New Mexico Highlands University. While in college, she studied music and participated in numerous choral productions. After college she taught school in several rural New Mexico settings before returning to Las Vegas, where she married Dr. E. H. Dellinger, an abdominal surgeon in the city. As a doctor's wife, Mrs. Dellinger actively participated in a number of medical auxiliary organizations’ projects and served as President of the International College of Surgeons Auxiliary. Her activities prompted the writing of her manuscript, "The History of Abdominal Surgery in New Mexico," which was presented at the 1960 convention of the Congress of Abdominal Surgery. The first two chapters were published in the Rocky Mountain Medical Journal under the title "Milestones in the Medical History of New Mexico." After the death of Dr. Dellinger in 1973, Mrs. Dellinger married John Wootton of Las Vegas. Maxine Dellinger Wootton died at the age of 75 on June 11, 1993.
