Biographical History
Graduated from West Point as Lieutenant and ordered to 6th Cavalry. Served in campaigns against the Sioux Indians, 1890-1891. Aide to Inspector General and adjutant to 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 5th Army Corps in Santiago de Cuba. Was with the China Relief Expedition and in the Philippine Insurrection. During World War I as Brigadier General (1917) commanded 157th Field Artillery Brigade and saw action in Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives. Became Major General (1918) and commanded the 42nd and 34th Divisions. American member of Interallied Armistice Commission (1918); commanded American Base at Bordeaux, Fr. (1919). On General Staff during 1903-06, 1909-12 and 1920-24. Retired 1929.

Charles Dudley Rhodes (b. Feb. 10, 1865, Delaware, Ohio-d. Jan. 24, 1948), U.S. Army officer, completed a university degree before graduating from West Point in 1889. In his early career he served in the Sioux Indian campaign; with the 5th Army Corps in Cuba; with the 6th Cavalry in the China Relief Expedition; and in numerous engagements with insurgents in the Philippines. During World War I, he was a commander with the 157th field artillery brigade and with the 42nd and 34th divisions in France. General Rhodes retired from active service in 1929.
