Biographical History

Captain Mumford H. Dixon (b. 1838) was a member of the "Swamp Rangers," a "gallant company of raftsmen and swampers." He entered the service at Vicksburg, Miss. on August 20, 1861, probably as a lieutenant, and was promoted to Captain on January 1, 1862. He was a 1st Lieutenant of Company H, 18th Regiment (Marmaduke's) Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army, which subsequently became Company E, 3rd Regiment Confederate Infantry. He was a merchant before the war and afterwards a county sheriff and marshal of a city, probably Vicksburg.

From the description of Mumford H. Dixon diary, 1864. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 84310463
