Biographical History

Teacher, art student, lecturer, public reader, author, amateur actress, avid traveler, and prolific letter writer; member of prominent Boston literary family whose members included her father, editor Nathan Hale, nephew of the Revolutionary War hero of the same name, an uncle, orator Edward Evertt, brothers, Edward Evertt Hale, a Untarian Minister and author of The Man Without a Country, Nathan and Charles Hale, both editors of The Boston Daily Advertiser, and a sister, Lucretia Hale, author of The Peterkin Papers. Lived in Matunuck, Rhode Island, 1883-1910.
