Biographical History
This congregation was officially organized on February 4, 1951 with 73 charter members. The had first met on January 19, 1950. They officially incorporated under the name of “The American Lutheran Church of Harlem” on August 16, 1951.
The Board of Missions of the ELC gave advanced funds for the erection of the church plant. First services in the new building were held on December 6, 1953 and a parsonage was completed the following February. Dedication of both buildings took place on July 18, 1954. During this period the decision was made to call a pastor to serve just the Harlem congregation.
In 1969 it was decided that it would be best if the Harlem congregation joined together with the Hogeland-Turner parish in the calling of a pastor. Since that time the three congregations have shared the service of the same pastor. The debt on the church was retired on January 7, 1973.
