Dr. Margaret Virginia Campbell, Professor Emerita of Modern Languages, served Florida State for 29 years before her retirement in 1964. Born in Ft. Pierce, Florida, Margaret Campbell moved with her family to the Panama Canal Zone where she attended school and became imbued with a love of things Spanish, which lasted her a lifetime. She attended Florida State College for Women and received her Ph. D. from the University of North Carolina and taught in public schools of Virginia, South Carolina.
And Florida, before joining the faculty of Florida State College for Women in 1935. Through her series of weekly TV programs she became well known throughout the Southeast. Dr. Campbell was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. She wrote many professional articles, and her special field of interest was Latin American Literature. Dr. Campbell died on July 4, 1970, after a long illness.
