Gividen was a native of Mapleton, Utah, and the co-pilot on a B-17 Bomber "Torchy Tess" which was shot down over Germany and crashed in Switzerland on 25 February 1945.
Gividen was a resident of Mapleton, Utah, at the time of the interview. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Gividen served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943-1946 as the co-pilot of a bombardier group. Immediately following his discharge he served a mission for the LDS Church, and later chose to remain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1984, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
