Biographical History

Bernhard Arthur Behrend was born in 1875 in Villeneuve, Switzerland; 1894 graduated University of Berlin with a civil engineering degree. 1896-1898 Assistant engineer at Oerlikon Company, Switzerland; 1900-1904 Chief electrical engineer at Bullock Electric Manufacturing Company of Cincinnati; 1904-1908 Chief electrical engineer at Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company; 1908-1910 Head engineer of the engineering department's power division at Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company; 1910-1926 private consulting business in Boston, Massachusetts; 1926-1932 private consulting business in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, 1901 author of The Induction Motor: A Short Treatise on Its Theory and Design; 1921 author of The Induction Motor and Other Alternating Current Motors. He married Margaret Plummer Chase of Brookline, Massachusetts in 1926. He died on March 25, 1932 at his home in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts.
