Irish artist and author.
Jack Butler Yeats was an Irish painter and illustrator. He was the younger brother of the poet, William Butler Yeats.
Epithet: known as Jack, painter
Jack Butler Yeats, the son of artist John Butler Yeats and brother of poet William Butler Yeats, was born in London, educated in Ireland, and returned to London. He wrote and illustrated stories for various magazines and newspapers, including the first cartoon version of Sherlock Holmes in 1894. He belonged to the group known as the Dublin Painters. In his last years, he returned to Ireland and concentrated on his painting.
Jack Butler Yeats (1870-1957) was an artist and writer who lived in Ireland and England. He was the son of John Butler Yeats, and brother to W.B. Yeats. The University of Victoria Libraries Special Collections has a mandate to acquire literary papers.
