Biographical History
Roy Clarke came to Spokane Falls in the 1880s with his parents. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and went to work for the Bunker Hill & Sullivan Mining Company, where he served as an engineer and mine manager. As with so many mining engineers, his work took him all over the western United States, Mexico, and British Columbia. He served as president of the Northwest Mining Association, 1934-1936, and was active in the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, ca. 1900-1943. Clarke died as a result of a fall while he was inspecting a mine in the Coeur d’Alene district in northern Idaho.
