Biographical History

Bernard Goodman (1910-2003) was a Trotskyist, a merchant seaman in his early twenties and an assistant to the president of the Seafarers International Union of North America before he became involved in NYC tenant issues at the end of the 1960s. In the early 1970s he mounted a campaign as the candidate of the newly organized Tenants Party for the Congressional seat held by Ed Koch. He did work on behalf of tenants for the Legal Aid Society and as a volunteer at the Chelsea Action Center, a housing action group.
