Represented in the collection are Richard Thompson Archer (1791- 1867), planter of Amelia County, Va., and Claiborne County, Miss.; his uncles Peter Field Archer (1758-1814), of Amelia County, Va., and James Powell Cocke (1781-1861), both named as trustees for the estate of his father, Richard Archer (1760-1796); and his mother, Mary Chastain (Cocke) Archer (1775-1849), also a plantation owner of Amelia County, Va.
