Biographical History
Born in Binghamton, N.Y. on Jan. 24, 1862, Clarence Ashley Lightner came to Detroit with his parents one year later. He attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1883. He was admitted to the bar in 1886, and worked as a lawyer in Detroit. He married Frances B. McGraw in 1892 and they had four children. Lightner was a lecturer on medical jurisprudence for the Detroit College of Medicine and also served on the Detroit Library Commission. In 1912 Lightner received a Master of Arts Degree from the U-M, in recognition of his services in raising standards of the legal profession. Clarence Lightner died on Dec. 7, 1938 in Tryon, N.C., where he was living at the time. He is buried there. (blue index cards)
