The Howard Hathaway Aiken Computation Laboratory houses specialized facilities for research and instruction in computing technology, including the Center for Research in Computing Technology.

The Harvard Computation Laboratory was established in 1944 when IBM presented the first entirely automatic digital computer to Harvard University, a machine designed and built by Howard Aiken. In 1962, the Harvard Computing Center was formed by combining the computer operational staff and the programming staff of the Littauer Statistical Laboratory; the functions of the two labs were then merged.
