History

Belcher and Belcher was a law firm in Marysville, Yuba County, California. Partners, William C. and Isaac S. Belcher were brothers born in Vermont. Isaac came to California in 1853 and settled in Marysville where he opened a law practice. His brother, William, joined him in 1856.

Isaac became district attorney in 1855 and a district judge in 1863. He served a term as a justice of the California Supreme Court in 1872-1874. He was vice-president of the California Constitutional Convention in 1879 and Commissioner of the Supreme Court from 1885 until his death in San Francisco in 1898. He was a California State Library trustee and a trustee of Stanford University.

William C. Belcher left Marysville and went into law practice in San Francisco in 1875. He was Grand Master of Masons in California, 1862-1865 and was elected Grand Commander of Knights Templar in 1864. He died in San Francisco in 1895.
