Biographical History
Canadian born British novelist and politician.
Parker was a Canadian novelist. After emigrating to England he became involed in British affairs as a Conservative member of Parliament.
Gilbert Parker was an author and politician. He was born in Canada but travelled extensively, settling in London. His main success as a writer was a series of romanticized novels set in the Candian Northwest. Parker was the first to exploit a Canadian setting, and his exotic yarns proved to be very popular, although critics found them artificial and melodramatic. He was knighted in 1902, and had a long career in conservative politics. He also wrote drama and short stories, becoming the first Canadian author to support himself through writing.
