Biographical History

George Washington Morrison Nutt was the son of Major Rodnia Nutt, a gentleman farmer of Manchester, N. H. He was a precocious and talented midget who was engaged by Phineas T. Barnum to perform at the American Museum in 1862. It was Barnum who gave him the sobriquet "Commodore" Nutt. He was the coachman for Tom Thumb. Nutt died, a bachelor, in 1881 at the age of 37.
