Biographical History
Bowman was an Army Engineer officer lieutenant in the 2nd and 9th Regiments, U.S. Engineers in the 1920s; served as engineer officer in Fifth Army staff during WW II; shortly in 8th Army Engineers in 1946; serving stateside between 1946-1949; in Korea in 1950 at Fort Leonard Wood in late 1950s; commanded 6th Armored Division in 1955. Served as district engineer at various sites over the years; chief engineer, Far East Command.
Frank O. Bowman was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA), West Point, in 1918. He was assigned to the Engineer Corps. He had service with the 3rd Engineers at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii (1922-1924), and with the 29th Engineers at Fort Humphreys, Virginia (1924-1929). He taught in the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program at Auburn Polytechnic Institute, Alabama. In WWII, Bowman saw action in England, North Africa, and Italy. He also was chief engineer of the Far East Command (FECOM) in Korea and Okinawa. Bowman retired from military service in 1955 with the rank of major general.
