Utley, Frayn Garrick, b. 1903.

Frayn Garrick Utley was born on Dec. 24, 1903 in Faulkton, South Dakota, to Adam Alexander and Reata (Frayn) Garrick. She earned a B.E. from UCLA in 1926 and an M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1930. Frayn Garrick married Clifton Utley, a Chicago NBC radio and (later) television commentator, on Sept. 19, 1931. They had three children: David Garrick, Clifton Garrick, and Jonathan Garrick. Frayn Utley also worked as a reporter for NBC and moderated a daily half-hour radio show in 1940-1941. She oversaw a fund-raising effort for the Community and War Fund during World War II in Chicago. Utley directed the Midwest Office of the Institute of International Education from 1956 to 1968 and was in charge of the region's Fulbright Scholars program. Frayn Garrick Utley served as Supervising Coordinator of Educational Programs at the Cook County School of Nursing where she created and implemented a new continuing education system. A trustee of the Unitarian Universalist Association for eight years, Utley was very active in community and international affairs, serving on many different boards.
