Norene Ann Bagnall Roberts, B.A. (1968) University of Massachusetts, M.A. (1972), Ph.D. (1978) University of Minnesota. Ph.D. thesis topic was on the early history of the University of Minnesota.

Norene Roberts was born on June 21, 1945 in Northampton, Massachusetts. She received her B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts in 1968. In 1972 she received her M.A. and in 1978 her Ph.D. both in American Studies from the University of Minnesota. Her dissertation was entitled The Early Political and Administrative History of the University of Minnesota, 1851-1884 . She taught courses in the English Department, the American Studies program and in Continuing Education for Women at the University of Minnesota from 1968-1977. Some of her courses included Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced Composition; Religion in the United States; National Identity; and International Roles of Women in Literature.
