Biographical History

Linguist, professor, author.

Miles L. Hanley taught at the University of Texas and Harvard University before settling at the University of Wisconsin in the 1920's. In 1933, while on a leave of absence at Yale University, he collaborated with Hans Kurath, Bernard Bloch, and Marcus Lee Hansen on the Linguistic atlas of New England. Author of many scholarly articles on language studies, Hanley was also active in the Works Progress Administration and the National Youth Administration. He died in 1954.
