Philander Chase, Episcopal Bishop, first Bishop of Ohio, later Bishop of Illinois, and founder of Kenyon College in Ohio and Jubilee College in Illinois.
First Episcopal Bishop of Ohio (1819-1831) and later Bishop of Illinois (1835-1852) and Presiding Bishop (1843-1852).
Clergyman and educator.
Graduate of Dartmouth College in 1795, ordained Episcopal minister, Bishop of the Ohio Diocese, founder of Kenyon College in Ohio, Bishop of the Illinois Diocese and founder of Jubilee College in Illinois. Married to Sophia Ingraham and had three sons. Traveled to England to raise funds for both Kenyon College and Jubilee College.
