Biographical History
A gift to endowment from Marta Sutton Weeks in 1987 provides funds to bring visiting distinguished lecturers to Stanford University for stays varying in duration from one week up to one quarter.
The Stanford Humanities Center, founded in 1980 by then-President Donald Kennedy, is dedicated to the advanced study of human history and culture. Humanities Center programs stress work of a multidisciplinary and collaborative nature. Now one of the most dynamic humanities centers in the country, the Stanford Humanities Center offers up to thirty-five fellowships every year, supports fifteen to twenty year-long research workshops, and stages numerous public events.
The Raymond Fred West Memorial Lecture Series was established in 1910 by Mr. and Mrs. Frederic West of Seattle in memory of their son, a student at Stanford University. The lectures are to promote the subject of "immortality, human conduct, and human destiny."
The Harry Camp Memorial Fund was established in 1956 by friends and associates of Harry Camp. A prominent businessman and philanthropist in San Francisco, Camp was described as "a gentle and wise humanitarian." The fund brings outstanding speakers to the University for public lectures and promotes the study of "the concept of the dignity and the worth of the individual."
