Richard Pillsbury Gale was born October 30, 1900, the son of Edward Chenery and Susan Belle (Pillsbury) Gale. His mother was the daughter of John Sargent Pillsbury, governor of Minnesota from 1876 to 1882. Gale was educated in the Minneapolis public schools, Blake School (Hopkins) and the University of Minnesota Farm School. He graduated from Yale University in 1922. He operated Wickham Farm near Mound, Minnesota. From 1939 to 1940 he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from the 36th District, and from 1941 to 1945 was a member of Congress from Minnesota's Third Congressional District. In 1923 he married Isobel Reising. They had two sons: Richard P. (died 1946) and Alfred P. Gale. Richard Pillsbury Gale died December 4, 1973, in Minneapolis.
