Biographical History

The James Jackson Putnam Children's Center opened in 1943, under the co-direction of Dr. Marian Cabot Putnam and Beata Rank. The Center was established with the goals of providing psychiatric treatment to young children, offering a daycare program for the local community, and conducting a long-term study of healthy children, which became the Well Baby Clinic directed by T. Berry Brazelton. The Center came to specialize in long-term treatment of autistic children. The Center was closed in 1979 due to bankruptcy.
