Biographical History

William Finley Tompkins (1913-1969), lawyer, was the Japanese War Crimes prosecutor from 1945 to 1946. He was the U.S. attorney for New Jersey from 1953 to 1954, and Assistant Attorney General for the Internal Security Division of the Department of Justice from 1954 to 1958. In 1958, Tompkins prosecuted the Soviet master spy, Rudolf Abel.
