Heinz was ranking minority member of the subcommittee on government efficiency.
Politician. Born on October 23, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the grandson of H.J. Heinz, founder of the H.J. Heinz Company.
Received B.A. from Yale (1960) and M.B.A. from Harvard (1963). Began political career in 1971 by winning a special election to the U.S. House of Representatives from the 18th District as a Republican. Elected to the Senate in 1976 and served until his untimely death on April 4, 1991 in an airplane crash. Chaired the International Finance and Monetary Policy Subcommittee (1981- 1986); Savings, Pension and Investment Policy Subcommittee (1985-1986); Special Committee on Aging (1981-1986); and National Republican Senatorial Committee (1979-1980, 1985-1986).
Politician and philanthropist. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on October 3, 1938 to the grandson of H.J. Heinz, founder of the food- processing H.J. Heinz Company.
Received B.A. in History from Yale University (1960) and an M.B.A. from Harvard (1963). Employed in the financial and marketing divisions of the H.J. Heinz Company (1965-1970). Taught business at the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (1970-1971). Elected as a Republican to represent PA's 18th District in the U.S. House of Representatives in a 1971 special election and served three consecutive terms. Elected to the U.S. Senate in 1976 and served until his untimely death in a plane crash on April 4, 1991. Earned a national reputation for his work for the elderly, international commerce and the environment. Actively participated in community and charitable endeavors, ranging from the arts to community development in the urban areas of Western Pennsylvania. Chairman of the Heinz Charitable and Family Trust and Trustee of the Howard and Vira Heinz Endowment.
