Biographical History
Soldier; born in Westmoreland County, Va., in 1789. Served in the War of 1812 at Chippewa and Lundy's Lane; breveted lieutenant-colonel for gallantry during the sortie from Fort Erie.

Born in Westmoreland County, Va., 1789; was 2nd lieutenant in the Marine Corps, Jan. 26, 1809; 1st lieutenant, Jun. 28, 1809; resigned, July 7, 1812; captain 3rd Artillery, Aug. 12, 1812; transferred to Corps Artillery, May 12, 1814; transferred to 3rd Artillery, Jun. 1, 1821; major 2nd Artillery, Feb. 17, 1827; lieutenant colonel 4th Artillery, Nov. 17, 1834; major assisting adjutant general, Aug.3, 1813 - Jun. 15, 1815; colonel adjutant general Aug. 10, 1818 - Jun. 1, 1821; brevet Major, July 5, 1814, for services in the battles of Chippewa and Lundy's Lane; lieutenant colonel by brevet for gallantry in the sortie from Fort Erie; Sep. 17, 1914; colonel, Sep. 14, 1824; brevet brigadier general, Jun. 7,1832; major general, May 30, 1848; died in Washington, D.C., July 15, 1852. Roger Jones (1789-1852) was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He began his military career as a Lieutenant in the Marines in 1809 and served in the War of 1812. He became Adjutant General of the U.S. Army, as a Brevet-Major General, a position he held until his death.
