Biographical History

Redfield Proctor was Secretary of War, 1888-1891. He also served as Governor and Senator from Vermont. George Crook was a Major-general in the army.

Redfield Proctor (1831-1908) was commissioned quartermaster of the 3rd Vermont Regiment June 19, 1861, was promoted to major of the 5th Vermont Regiment September 25, 1861, resigned July 11, 1862. He was commissioned colonel of the 15th Vermont Regiment September 26, 1862, and was mustered out August 5, 1863.
