Jackson was the first black woman to teach in the public schools of Oakland, Calif., and one of the founders of the Rho chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first black sorority on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley.
Ida Louise Jackson was born on 12 Oct 1902 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She earned a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1922, a M.A. in 1923, and completed Ph.D. coursework at the Teachers College of Columbia University. She was a te acher and administrator.
