Biographical History
Born in Hillside, Wisconsin in 1881, Chester Lloyd Jones graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1902 and received a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1906. He taught political science at the University of Pennsylvania from 1906-1910, and was professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin from 1910 until 1920. During World War I he served as Director of the Bureau of Foreign Agents of War Trade Board (1918-1919). He went on to become commercial attaché to the American Embassy in Madrid, Spain (1919-1920), to the American Legation in Havana, Cuba (1921-1922) and to the American Embassy in Paris, France (1922-1927). In 1928, he was adviser to the Pan American conference in Havana, Cuba. Upon returning to Wisconsin in 1929, he became director of the university's school of commerce (1929-1935) and, until his death in 1941, was professor of economics. He was the author of Caribbean Interests of the United States (1916), Mexico and Its Reconstruction (1921), The Caribbean Since 1900 (1936), and several other works.
