George Eastland Christian (b. Jan. 1, 1927-d. Nov. 27, 2002, Austin, Tex.) was a University of Texas graduate. He served as an assistant to Senator Price Daniel in 1956, an assistant to Texas Governor Price Daniel from 1957 to 1963, and an assistant to Texas Governor John Connally from 1963 to 1966. He served as press secretary to Texas governors Prince Daniel and John B. Connally. He was also a White House Press Secretary and Special Assistant to President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1966 to 1969.
George Eastland Christian was born January 1, 1927 in Austin, Texas. He graduated from Austin High School in 1944, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age seventeen and served in the Second Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force-Pacific during World War II.
Chrisitan attended the University of Texas at Austin and was sports editor for the student newspaper, The Daily Texan; his close association with the university continued thereafter. When Price Daniel became Governor of Texas, Christian served as his press secretary and then cheif of staff. Christian later joined Governor John Connally as press secretary, and held that post when Connally was wounded during the assassination of President Kennedy. From 1966-1969, Christian served as part of President Johnson's White House staff. In 1969 Christian began a successful career as a public affairs and political consultant. He also raised funds for the University of Texas, historical preservation projects, and many other causes.
