Frederick Tennyson, older brother of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, was born in Lincolnshire and educated at Eton and Oxford. He contributed poems to Poems by Two Brothers, and published several other volumes of poetry; although his verse had promising passages, he never achieved popular or critical success. He lived most of his life in Italy and the island of Jersey; while living in Florence he became a close friend of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
