Biographical History

William Douglas Dunham (b. 1920, Tacoma, Wash.-d. March 3, 1990), U.S. Air Force officer, completed flying school and received his commission late in 1941. After serving as a pilot and test pilot in the U.S., he deployed with the 342nd Fighter Squadron in Australia and New Guinea and also served with the 460th Fighter Squadron and 348th Fighter Group in the Pacific theater. Following World War II, General Dunham was assigned to the 56th Fighter Group and 62nd Fighter Squadron, rising to commander. He later served at Headquarters Strategic Air Command and as director of operations for the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing in England. In 1966 General Dunham was assigned as deputy chief of staff for operations, Seventh Air Force, Vietnam. He retired from Air Force service in February 1970.
