Biographical History

The 29th United States Infantry was established in Albany, New York, on January 29, 1813, during the War of 1812. Major John Ellis Wool (1784-1869) and Major Asa B. Sizer (1780-1829) led the regiment, which was stationed at Sackets Harbor from March to August 1814. They fought under General Alexander Macomb at the Battle of Plattsburg in September of that year. After the war the regiment was combined with the 6th United States Infantry.
