John Thomas Bigge was a judge and King's Commissioner sent from England to New South Wales in 1819 to conduct an inquiry into the affairs of the colony.
Commissioner John Thomas Bigge was appointed as the King's Commissioner to inquire into the affairs of the colony. He arrived in New South Wales in 1819. His investigations took two years and in 1822 his three reports were printed by order of the House of Commons. The reports dealt with penal discipline, judicial establishment, ecclesiastical matters and trade and agriculture. Mr Bigge was accompanied by Mr Thomas Hobbes Scott as Secretary.
