Biographical History
Established in 1979, the University Consortium for Research on North America was a partnership of Brandeis, Harvard, and Tufts Universities and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Based at Harvard's Center for International Affairs, the Consortium incorporated the efforts of scholars from its member institutions as well as visiting scholars from the U.S. and Canada, graduate students, and leaders from Canadian and American government and business. Its many programs - the Canadian/US Relations Seminar, the Canadian Study Group, Visiting Lecturers, the Annual Canadian Lecture, Visiting Scholars,and the Canadian Workshop - facilitated the conduct, sponsorship and supervision of research, with emphasis on political, economic and cultural exchange; public policy affecting land use, transportation, urban development, energy, gun control and health care; the status and development of Canadian regions, especially Quebec; energy resources; and defense. The Director was Elliot J. Feldman.
