The following men served in the U.S. Civil War: John A. Tanfield was a private in Co. B, 8th Regiment Pa. Infantry (1861) and was enrolled at Camp Curtin; John O. Tanfield was stationed at Chambersburg, Pa. and was part of the 112th Pa. Regiment which later became the 2nd Regiment Pa. Heavy Artillery which saw action near Richmond, Va. in 1864; Thomas A. Tanfield was a member of Co. L., 23rd Pa. Regiment and later with 61st Pa. Regiment, Co. D and saw action in Virginia around Chickahominy and Fair Oaks Station (1862), became a Corporal and was killed in action in 1864 at Spotsylvania; William C. Tanfield was with Co. I, 95th Regiment Pa. Volunteers and was stationed near Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg in 1864; David W. Dale was with 9th Pa. Cavalry, Co. L and saw action around Paris, Ky. in 1862/63; Edward Stern was stationed at Camp Franklin and Fair Oaks in 1862.
