Biographical History

Alexander McCallum Scott received his MA from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1897 . Thereafter he undertook journalistic and political work in London, England, where he was appointed secretary of the League of Liberals against Aggression and Militarism from 1900-1903 . He was then appointed secretary of the New Reform Club from 1903-1906, and was concurrently a member of Lewisham Borough Council, London. He became private secretary to Lord Pentland, Secretary of State for Scotland, in 1909 . From 1910-1922 he was the Member of Parliament for Bridgeton, Glasgow. He was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to Churchill, Sir Winston Leonard Spencer, 1874-1965, minister of munitions, 1917-1919, and again to Winston Churchill, Secretary of State for War, 1919 . He became the Coalition Liberal Whip for Scotland in 1922, before leaving the Liberal party to join the Labour Party in 1924 . He published two biographies of Winston Churchill, the first Winston Spencer Churchill, a Biography in 1905, and the second Winston Churchill in Peace and War in 1916. He also published several works about travelling in Scandinavia. He died in 1928 .
